The British Indoor Karting Championship held it’s National Final on the 6th of November, with a brace of BRKC drivers taking part.
The months-long competition culminated in a National Final at TeamSport’s Warrington circuit, with drivers split into three weight categories: Lightweight (0-75kg), Middleweight (75-90kg) & Heavyweight (90kg+).
BRKC drivers had previously dominated the Lightweight & Middleweight classes, with both Dante Dhillon & Sam Slater taking those respective championships in 2020 & 2021. Dhillon was again untouchable in 2022, claiming his third straight British title in the Lightweights. He was joined on the podium by fellow BRKC 2023 driver, Luke Evans who took an impressive 3rd place.
However, reigning Middleweight Champion Sam Slater suffered misfortune in both qualifying & the heats, with some controversial on-track incidents, as well as kart disparity leaving him with a huge task heading into the Middleweight Grand Final. Starting outside the top-10, Slater clawed his way back to podium contention – but ultimately fell one place short in P4, backed up by fellow BRKC driver Brad Philpot in 5th.
The Heavyweight class saw BRKC 2023 drivers Jonny Elliott & John Paragon both take clean sweeps of the victories in their respective Heat and Semi-Final groups – but it was Elliott’s marginally faster Semi-Final best lap that saw him take pole position for the Grand Final. Despite Paragon’s best efforts, Jonny held on to win his maiden British Championship after a stern defence.
All of the drivers mentioned will be fighting against each other in BRKC‘s single weight category (all drivers racing at 90kg minimum) on the 21st-22nd of January 2023.
